What a marvelous
challenge life is.
Socrates declared that
the unexamined life
is not worth living.
Certainly, though, it is a
painful thing to truly
examine one’s life
one’s self.
To look at who I am and
what I do is
a challenge of
frightening proportions.
And yet,
it is as I get to know
my self that I
learn to appreciate
my uniqueness
that I see
the courage it
has taken to be me
without excuses
without blame
or rancour.
To be able to
acknowledge
that who I am
is the sum of all
that has happened
to me,
around me,
because of me,
in spite of me.
That my
thoughts and
decisions, my
feelings and hesitations
all equal up
EQUAL ME!
Truly therein
lies a sense of
acceptance
rather than resignation.
A knowledge of
and a joy in
knowing that who
I am is truly up to me.
~Joss Burnel / She Who Walks in Beauty
My favourite saying is “Today is the first day of the rest of my life”, just so that I know it’s up to me not to repeat my mistakes, or keep looking back over my shoulder at the ones I’ve made that cannot be undone. Thanks for that wise poem, Joss, especially for the last verse.

Thank you dear Sarah. It often seems to me that, too often, we feel we are victims of life or, at least, at the mercy of all that happens. I like your approach.
